Standard & Poor’s said Hawaii is “exhibitingg decidedly recessionary trends,” and that its dependence on tourism to drives the local economy could mean the state will be more severel affected bythe recession. “The negatives outlook assigned to HEI reflects the potentiak for consolidated credit metrics to fall below our benchmarkz over our outlook horizon dueto Hawaii’xs weakening economy, which is expected to lowetr electric sales by 4 percent or more and put upward pressure on borrowing requirements,” S&P , a subsidiary of HEI, is rated on a standaloned basis and is not affected by the loweresd outlook.
