Gerstenberger said that under Ontario law, if the steel giant didn'rt recall the workers, it would be required to pay severancee to any workers who have been laid off for 35 of 52 The severance would equal one week of pay per every year worked, up to 26. With some 500 workers with 25 years or moreof service, the cost to U.S. Steel would quickly add up toaround $13 Gerstenberger said.
